Another Hour to Kill

Spent a day down by the ocean

Then we drove up in the hills

We found ourselves with another hour to kill

Lost my change down on the corner

Where I ordered us a beer

We’re drinking to the days still to appear

Have no questions, dear

Have no doubts

We can wander without fear

Of being found out

We’re just ordinary people

Trying not to be unkind

Between swallows of Calistoga wine

I shouldn’t interrupt here

But does this all make sense

The rhyme, the flow,

This place of innocence

Can I ask you again

Where you’re from?

In my mind, when I try

It’s all wrong

My love, my dear

Spent a day down by the ocean

Then we drove up in the hills

We found ourselves with another hour to kill

I Let You Go

I let you go

I hope it’s not for good

I’ll get you back I know I can

I know I should

Treated me well

Faced me at my worst

And never backed down

From winning my own game

What do I deserve?

How can I be sure that you’ll be fair?

I hope you know

That this sacred vow

Changes nothing and everything between us

I call you “brother of the many miles”

Rice paper reads

Our souls are knit as one

What do I deserve?

How can I be sure that you’ll be fair?

Unbound

On a flight from San Francisco to JFK

Drinking five dollar beers all the way

Thinking on what I left behind

Watching scenes drift through my mind

If I’m no longer found

Then pray for me as I’m unbound

We drove our car most of the day

We barely spoke the hours that we lay

On the hood under the moon

Daylight woke us up too soon

If we’re no longer found

May we wander unbound

Whether fighting through the crush of subways

Or getting lost in the Tamalpais haze

I have always had my doubts

To bring me back safe and sound

And then when I feel I’ve been found

I struggle free ’til I’m unbound
