Hungry Ghost

You know how you want to be treated

You know how it feels to be needed

Well I can’t fault you for loving

And wanting to be loved

But don’t look so desperate

You’re not real

You’re not here at all

Not enough, not enough

Did I hear you say enough?

Not enough, not enough

Will you ever say enough?

Not enough, not enough,

Have you ever said enough?

You know I don’t want to be around you

I’m so tired of the people that surround you

They’re only looking for limits

On what you have to give

And when you run out of giving

They wont be here

To wipe your tears

Or drink your beer

Or help you steer your car

CH

So far I can’t seem to get through

You’re so far I don’t expect to find you

We had our chance for goodbyes

But you were gone long ago

Now every word that you speak

It’s a show

You’re a hungry ghost

CH

What to Listen For

What to listen for

And when to look around

Oh these answers

Are falling to the ground

How to show your thanks

And how to sing and praise

Simple lifetimes, ordinary things

It takes a lifetime

To realize these things

When to hold your mouth

And when to shut the door

Oh these closures

Will serve you evermore

Who to tell your thoughts

And how to speak a dream

In this lifetime

We say not what we mean

It takes a lifetime to realize these things

Simple lifetimes, ordinary things

It takes a lifetime to realize these things

Lonely Journey

I don’t know if I’m in love with you

But I know this much

I’m feeling lone and blue

Won’t you take me away from here

Won’t you let me away from here

I’m on a lonely journey

I’m on a lonely journey

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do

I just feel so much

I’ve lost my sense of you

Won’t you take me away from here

Won’t you let me away from here

I’m on a lonely journey

I’m on a lonely journey

To Know

I was hanging out in between

What we’re calling night and day

Having a look into see

If I could have a stay

Nothing that I saw on your face

Told me which way to go

Nothing that I heard in your voice

Tried to get me there

To know, to know, how to know...

I was laying down in the street

Waving at the clouds

I was looking down at my feet

When my luck turned around

Couldn’t you have pointed my eyes

At what I was letting go?

And couldn’t you have offered a ride

Or at least kept me in tow?

CH

I was thinking ‘bout all the things

We said we’d never do

And when I thought about all the things

That we gave into

I didn’t want to be in my head

I wanted to drive your car

Off into the big rosy red

And onward through the stars

CH

I Swear

I swear there’s an answer out there

It’s a feeling I can’t shake

It holds my heart

Keeps me awake

What I’m looking for

Is the kind of love that dares speak my name

I care for the future of my name

It’s a thought best left untold

A secret vanity of soul

What I’m looking for

Is a way off the racecourse

Hold the line,

Hold the line for me

I realize

How I want to be

‘Cause here I am

Wasting my time

Reading the lines

Nowhere to be

In this fantasy

I wear all my fear upon my face

Every time I’ve been knocked down

Or cleared the room

Without a sound

What I’m looking for

Is someone to receive me

Hold the line,

Hold the line for me

I realize

How I want to be

‘Cause here I am

Wasting my time

Reading the lines

Nowhere to be

In this fantasy

Home

Home, I don’t know where that is

Home, I don’t know what that means

I hear them laughing

I see the street light glow

Home, I left there long ago

Home, I left there in the snow

To see the waves crash

Over the rocky shore

Home, I left a note on the door

Home, I felt my feet on the floor

I walked for miles alone

I talked to no one

Home

Home

I feel the cold wind blow

I see the moon go down

Nowhere is Brighter

Nowhere is brighter then here

Nowhere is brighter

Nowhere

Will

Will’s in love with his nose

He turns his head til he’s sure the good side shows

And as he reaches for his robe

He remembers dancing all alone

In the bathroom of the bar

Gin and tonic and cocaine in his arm

And though he wanted not to cheat

At 2 o’clock he picked a boy and found his feet

That’s the way it goes

They walked a block out to his car

Couldn’t see straight or drive very far

So he dropped the boy on treat

Didn’t care to catch his name or plan to meet

And as the sun rose over Will

From his pocket he took his very last pill

As the sleep was coming on

He pulled his car into an empty parking lot

He thought to himself

That’s the way it goes

Tonight, I Know

I wanted you

To think I knew what I was doing

You wanted to

Find what makes it all worth living

So we breathe our dreams

Into the air tonight

The wind blows our hair

As we hold each other tight

The feeling only grows

Tonight, I know

I thought of you

Tried to sleep but tossed and turned

It’s been a few

But so much more to live and learn

So we breathe our dreams

Into the air tonight

The wind blows our hair

As we hold each other tight

The feeling only grows

Tonight, I know

But what can you know for sure

The Sense That I Get

I’m not worth talking to, that’s the sense that I get

I’m not worth talking to, that’s the sense that I get

But I’ll never do you no wrong

Unless you find you need a little bit

It’s not worth lying about, you either love me or you don’t

It’s not worth crying about, if you decide that you won’t

But hurry up and make up your mind

Before the door closes on us both

All along, all along all along, I believed in what we had

I’m all alone, all alone, all alone, I never dreamed it could be this bad

I’m a captive of this pain

It’s in my head where it began

I called you on the phone, you said you’re too high to speak

I called you on the phone, you said you’re too high to speak

Seems you’ve forgotten your home

And you left me feeling weak

I’m not worth talking to...

Crazy Love

I think I know just where you’ve been

When you come crawling in at night

I got a feeling I can’t win

Just before the morning light

What’s his name and where’s he from

I’ll hear that story soon enough

But for now I think I’m done

With this crazy kind of love

Don’t call me crazy

I think I know just how I want to feel

Someday maybe you’ll realize

You walked on something real

I know we said that it’s OK

For us to do this kind of thing

But now you call him every day

You’re waiting for his ring-a-ling

Slam the door and bang that drum

Rip the link right off the cuff

‘Cause for now I think I’m done

With this crazy kind of love

Don’t call me crazy

I think I know just how I want to feel

Someday maybe you’ll realize

You walked on something real

Brother

Oh my Brother

You’re my brother

But lately you’re acting more

Like my mother

I can’t drink

I can’t smoke

I can’t coke

Or I’ll go under

Way, way down under

Below our bed at night

Before the morning light

A secret garden grows

Nobody knows, nobody knows

They don’t get it

What do we see in each other

We’re too different

Too much the same

Oh my brother

You’re my brother

I want to listen to what you have to say

I want to take you in my arms

And hear about your day

Davey

Davey was a good boy all the way through

When he made a dollar he sent it home to you

He’s on a long ride, a long ride to his home

It’s a long long long long ride to his home

Davey laid his head down on a pile of leaves

He could hear the steam train whistle through the trees

He’s got a long ride, a long time til he’s home

He’s got a long long long long ride til he gets home

Davey had a bad dream, almost lost his head

Woke up craving water and clutching to his bed

He had a dark dream with spirits all around

He had a long long long long ride into town

Davey put his thumb out looking for a ride

He thought his luck had run out when something caught his eye

He’s got a long ride, now a pistol at his side

It’s a long long long long ride to his home

Davey missed his children, his wife loved him a lot

So when his next ride came along he pulled that pistol out

He done a bad thing, he took that driver’s car

Then that long long long long ride didn’t seem so far

Davey floored the car down to his Kentucky home

The driver watched the highway and dialed his cell phone

He called the cops but Davey was nearly done

With that long long long long ride to his home

Davey reached his driveway, he got to his front porch

He had to learn the hard way what the gun he’d found was worth

It killed a man before Davey’d come along

And that gun was in his hands when he got home

Davey stole the car that’s true, but he’d never hurt a man

Even with the cops right there, he took his wife by her sweet hand

Then he went along with them, they took him off to jail

Where the long long long long ride didn’t seem so bad

He’s got a long long long long ride to his home

He’s got a long long long long ride ‘til he gets home

Leg

Did you feel me move my leg

Away from you last night

I hope you didn’t think

It meant that I was right

When I said you’d never get

Inside me like you wanted

‘Cause then I couldn’t sleep

Regretting every word in my head

When will I realize

Just how good you are for me?

I will try

Not to try too hard

But just let it be

So you saw me walk right by

In the bar last night

Escaping to the back

Safely out of sight

Of the people on the stairs

A crowd that seems to know you

You were messing up my hair

When all the years that we shared returned

When will I realize

Just how good you are for me...

Stay

I want to stay

I want to go away

I’m gonna pray

‘Cause I want to know either way

If I’m gonna live

I need you to forgive

All that we didn’t say

Precious time slipped away
